Onboarding Visits
There are exciting teaching opportunities at all career stages across the Rugby Group of Schools. Whilst appointments are made directly by each School, all staff taking up new positions at Rugby School Thailand or Rugby School Japan are invited to Rugby School for an ‘Onboarding’ Visit. This takes place in the Summer Term prior to taking up the new role.
Onboarding offers time to see the School and meet with key members of the Group and School staff. Each visit is personalised to include time with Heads of Department and staff in dedicated subject areas. This begins to establish links between subject departments at Rugby School, the approach to the Rugby style of education and sharing practical ideas within subject areas. The visit typically includes:
Overnight stay in one of the Boarding Houses
Morning Chapel with the whole School
Welcome briefing from the Executive Team and coffee with the Senior Common Room
Tours of the School with members of staff and the Levée
Lunch in one of the Houses
Meetings with Heads of Department and subject staff
Final Q&A and depart
The visits are relaxed and informal. Whilst following a typical day in our busy boarding school, they are also a great chance to make links with other colleagues embarking on new adventures within the Rugby Group.
As the end an onboarding visit you are no longer a new starter but a fellow colleague in an ever growing and supportive staff community.
Staff Case Studies
As a genuine family of schools, we are delighted to share examples of some of our staff who have moved within the Group and progressed to take up new positions in different locations.
Fliss: joined Rugby School having been at Rugby School Thailand, where she was Housemistress of School House. During her time there, she set up two boarding houses in her roles as Assistant Housemistress and Housemistress. As a founding member of staff, she also held positions as Head of Drama and Head of Scholars. She loved her time at RST and was delighted to remain in the Rugby family when moving back to the UK. Leading a House of fifty girls aged 13-18 years, her experience of teaching abroad brings a great perspective to supporting those in her care. She will lead the hosting team, welcoming twenty students from Rugby School Thailand at the end of the Summer term as they swap places with twenty students from Rugby UK for two weeks.
Emma: having taught Art at Rugby School, Emma moved to Rugby School in Japan in September 2023 to establish the Art Department as the School opened. She has been inspirational, and the department is one of the most vibrant and visible across the school. Students follow a wide variety of disciplines under her guidance and their work is rightly taking pride of place across the site.
Pip: has been appointed to a Graduate Teaching Assistant role in Japan for September 2024. Excited to move to Tokyo she made a special request when confirming her place for the onboarding visit – to come back to stay in her old boarding house! Having been a student here for the Sixth Form she has first-hand experience of a Rugby School education and is excited to be able to share this at Rugby School Japan.
